An Appropriate Gift

August 7, 2008

Today Sophia attended her summer Bible camp for the last time. It was a wonderful program — the children attended two days a week from 9 AM until 3 PM. They took field trips, played games, learned Scriptures and had all sorts of fun. (And it only cost me $10 for the whole thing!!!)

Throughout the course of the program, the kids earned points for memorization work. The points were to be redeemed for prizes today. Sophia racked up a total of 58 points, pretty good for one of the youngest kids there. She memorized all but two of the verses and most of the books of the Bible.

With her points, she did the unthinkable for a six year old: she used them to select gifts for each member of her family. (Yes, even her brother!) Dan got two toy cars because he’s a guy and guys love cars. Trevor got a silly hat because he loves silly hats. For me, she chose this bracelet.

What a lovely reminder for me while I’m dealing with my dad’s health issues. A reminder, I might add, that I need at least daily.

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
