Meme of Miscellany

November 28, 2006

Copied from Mary at Mom Writes.

1. Flip to page 18, paragraph 4 – in the book closest to you right now, what does it say?
From The Worn Out Woman by Dr. Steve Stephens and Alice Gray: “In all of this, we want to encourage and inspire you because we are convinced there is hope. No matter how stressed and overwhelmed you might feel, you can experience the fulfilling life God has planned for you. Even if you have been worn out for so long that you can’t remember what it’s like to relax and laugh and feel peace, you really can recapture those simple joys in your life.”

2. If you stretch out your left arm as far as possible, what are you touching?
A stack of unpaid bills.

3. What’s the last program you watched on TV?
Actually watching? The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, last night.

4. Without looking, guess what time it is.
1:30. I’m close — it’s 1:27! I’ve gotten pretty good at estimating what time it is since I don’t wear a watch.

5. Aside from the computer, what can you hear right now?
TV, Sophia singing her alphabet.

6. When was the last time you were outside and what did you do?
About 10 minutes ago — I brought the trash cans up from the street, put an envelope in the mailbox, carried some of Dan’s rubbish from the driveway back to his shed.

7. What are you wearing?
Brown velour pants & hoodie with a tan top.

8. Did you dream last night? If you did, what about?
I don’t remember.

9. When was the last time you laughed?
This morning, when Sophia told me she could feel her heart “beeping.”

10. What’s on the walls, in the room you’re in right now?
A framed print of Edmund Blair Leighton’s The Accolade, a Henry VIII bust, a frog clock, a a brass jester mask, a charicature of Dan and me… pretty much anything that we didn’t have another spot for in the house. This room is our catch-all in more ways that one. LOL

11. Have you seen anything strange lately?
This toy seems pretty strange (alarming? wildly inappropriate?) to me.

12. What do you think about this meme?
I think it’s pretty cool. Way better than the number memes.

13. What’s the last film you saw?
At home, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In the theatre, Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.

14. If you became a multimillionaire, what would you do with the money?
Tithe, travel, and save. And maybe buy a new sofa.

15. Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
Angel food cake gives me the hiccups.

16. If you could change ONE THING in this world, without regarding politics or bad guilt, what would it be?
I would change the modern tendency to shun obligations, commitments, and doing what is right in order to selfishly pursue one’s own happiness. (Not as deep as it sounds; it’s actually rather easy once you get used to it.)

17. Do you like to dance?

18. George Bush?
The elder? All I can remember about him is that he didn’t like broccoli, and he once puked on some foreign dignitary’s lap in Asia. As for “W,” I think it should stand for, “What were y’all thinking when you re-elected him?!?!”

19. What do you want your children’s names to be, girl/boy?
Aside from the ones I’ve already chosen, and assuming I would have more children (yikes!), I would pick Elizabeth Gloriana for the girl and Donovan Reese for the boy.

20. Would you ever consider living abroad?
Only if I didn’t have any family left. I can’t imagine living more than a few hours away from my relatives.

21. What do you want God to tell you, when you come to heaven?
Well done, my good and faithful servant.

22. Who should do this meme?
Anyone who wants to!
