Thirteen Things That Keep Popping In and Out of My Mind

  1. Why do people put memorials on their vehicles? The latest craze around here is to have a decal on your vehicle window that says “In Memory of Jane Doe, April 1, 1954 – July 28, 2004.” I’m sorry, I just don’t get it.
  2. As FDR once said (right before keeling over), “I have a terrific headache.” And I seem to be getting them more and more lately. They last for hours — sometimes even all day long — and don’t go away when I take Excedrin. The other weird thing is that they seem to be concentrated in the top of my head rather than the temples or the sinus areas. I had a theory that they were triggered by changes in barometric pressure, because it seemed like I always got them right before it rained and once it started raining, they would go away. Now I’m wondering if they are migraines (what makes a headache a migraine, anyway?) or maybe even a sign of something more serious. Middle age sucks.
  3. I went to the movies with Lisa on Tuesday and saw Borat. It was funny and very politically incorrect, but it wasn’t all that the hype is leading you to believe it is. And I definitely could’ve done without seeing the obese hairy naked man running through a room, thankyouverymuch.
  4. While we were at the cinema, there was a poster for a movie coming out at the holidays: The Nativity Story! I am so pleased to see more Christian movies being made for the big screen.
  5. In other news, Facing the Giants is finally playing here. I hope to take Trevor to see it soon. I think he could use some inspiration/motivation. OOPS! Scratch that. Apparently today was the last day, so it’s going in my Netflix queue to be viewed at a later date.
  6. Speaking of Trevor, report cards come out on Wednesday of next week. Dan visited Trevor’s math class today (at the teacher’s request, no less!) and was informed that Trevor will be getting a C- in history and a D in both math and reading. I am not happy, but this business of Trevor not performing up to his potential in school has been going on so long that frankly, I’m worn out and ready to just give up. Despite how much I want him to be responsible and successful, I can’t make him be that way.
  7. I want to go back to Disney World. Now.
  8. My new favorite cereal is Malt-o-Meal’s Blueberry Muffin Tops. Oh my gosh, it is so yummy! I’m totally addicted.
  9. I think I am going to try some once-a-month cooking (albeit on a smaller scale — maybe once a fortnight cooking) over the long Thanksgiving weekend. I need to pick out some recipes and create my shopping list. I’ve always been curious about this, so I’m eager to see how it works.
  10. Regarding the election — I’m trying not to gloat.  Honest.
  11. Regarding Britney’s divorce — Is anyone surprised?
  12. I hate to say it, but I’m ready for some cold weather. We have had freakishly high temperatures here lately — like into the 70s, for goodness’ sake! — and here it is, time to be thinking about Thanksgiving dinner. I can’t think about making a big meal for lots of people when it’s too warm for me to wear socks!
  13. Site meter says I’ve had 148 hits on my web site just today.  I think that must be wrong.
