The Broken Box Store

July 13, 2006

On Tuesday I went to “the broken box store” AKA Lou’s Discount Groceries. It’s a small building full of bargains that my friend Noodle told me about. There are discontinued items, items that are still good but past the “best taste by” date, and individually wrapped items that fell out of their larger package. Here’s what I found:

A jar of Dulce de Leche (which I like to call Heaven on a Spoon) for 75 cents! YUM! Alas, there was only one jar. But that’s probably better for my hips anyway.

Loose juice boxes and pouches (Capri Sun, Minute Maid, Apple & Eve, etc) priced at 8 for $1. I bought 16, making sure that each one still had its straw because sometimes they don’t.

Starbucks Mint Mocha Frappuccino bottles for 50 cents a piece! The bottle was marked “best taste by Sept 26 2005” so I was leery, and only bought 6. Well, they are delicious, and Dan has already consumed 3 of them so I am going to have to go back and get more.

Some unusual Crayola snack items that I never saw in a regular store called Crafty Cooking Kits — you bake the item (brownies, cookies, rice krispie treats) and then decorate them — everything you need is included in the box. I got one of each type for $1.25 each.

Suave Toasted Vanilla Sugar body wash (discontinued holiday scent which I love — it doesn’t bother me a bit to smell like a cookie)… 75 cents each! I think I got four of those, which was all I could find.

I don’t remember what else I got… I spent a total of $17 and left with five or six bags full of stuff. If you have a “broken box” store where you are, check it out!
