Getting My Country Groove On
July 26, 2007Last night was date night, and Dan and I went to the local state fair. What a blast! The first thing we did was go to the petting zoo (yes, even though the kids weren’t with us). They had a zebu!

You Veggie Tales fans will understand why that is such a big deal. Also, the zebu has the prettiest eyes I have ever seen. They are big and soulful, with gorgeous long eyelashes.

After saying hello to the animals, we went in search of food. We couldn’t figure out exactly what we wanted to get, but Dan was hungry and I was hot. So we got these appetizers:

Then we strolled and looked at the newly sheared sheep, and the cows. One poor heifer was so full of milk that she was dripping the stuff. I took one look at her bulging udder and had horrible flashbacks to the time I quit breastfeeding Trevor cold turkey. Can you say engorgement? Ouch!

We skedaddled out of there and found the Mennonite food vendors who make good crab cakes. That was dinner. After we ate, we did a little more strolling and decided it was time to check in for The Concert. We found our seats which were nowhere near front row, but were decent enough for me to get some good pictures. The opening act was a guy named Jack Ingram who sounded pretty good but rarely opened his eyes the whole time he was on stage. Next up was Kellie Pickler.

I’m not a fan of American Idol (I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen it, to be honest), so this was not a big draw for me. We knew that someone named Taylor Swift was following Kellie Pickler, but we were not familiar with her. (We didn’t even know if she was a woman or a man until we saw someone walk by with her name and picture on a shirt). We decided to head out, check out some more exhibits, and then return before Brad Paisley came on stage.
Brad Paisley! What can I say — he’s an awesome performer and one heck of a guitarist. Dan and I agreed we could have stayed all night listening to him. And it was (as Archibald Asparagus would say) “a symphonic multi media event.” There were lights and graphics and videos for every song, including an animated cartoon that Brad himself created.
Here’s a view of what the whole stage looked like in one of its less glitzy moments…
But my favorite concert shot? That would have to be this one:

The concert ended promptly at 11:00, so Dan and I started making our way toward the exit. We stopped to get dessert, which was a plate of deep fried Oreos. YUMMY!

We had a blast!

Sounds like a blast!
Deep fried Oreos though? I’ll just have to trust you on that.
I was wondering what that last photo was of. Looks yummmy!!
Brad Paisley is one of my favorite country singers. Sounds like you guys had a real fun time!
Hi there, I like your picture of the cow engorgement… I’m writing a book and would like to use this picture in it to depict true engorgement. If you’d be willing to give me permission to use this photo, I’d be very grateful. If you’d like to know more or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me.
THanks for your time!
