
Works for Me Wednesday: Free Culinary Inspiration

Lately, I’ve been turning into a real domestic goddess, what with all the menu planning and real cooking (making things from scratch, not from a box). I’ve even tried new recipes, which is something I would not have done before.
So, my Works for Me Wednesday tip is something so simple that I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before: Check out cookbooks from the library.
Cookbooks tend to be ridiculously expensive — they have nice glossy pages and gorgeous mouth-watering photos, plus they are usually hard covers. So why buy one when there may only be a few great recipes in it?
My local library has a great selection of cookbooks written by Rachael Ray, Paula Deen, Barefoot Contessa, Jamie Oliver, and other famous chefs. There are also specialty cookbooks — some just for bread, some on southern cooking, some on desserts (obviously, my favorite!), seafood, slow cooker, etc. And because it’s the library, I get to temporarily “own” them… for free!
So I look through them, then either try a few recipes or scan and print some for future use. And just in case you’re wondering, here’s what I looked through last week:
