Women’s Retreat – What a Way to Get Away!
November 5, 2006
This weekend I went on a women’s retreat with my church. I spent the entire weekend with 19 other women of different ages, races, and educational/social backgrounds. It was absolutely wonderful to experience the love and compassion that Christian women have for each other. No gossiping, no back-biting, no condemnation… just love and acceptance and a lot of laughter. If that doesn’t sound possible for a group of women (as I once would have thought), I suggest you re-examine your social circle because it is indeed possible. And it’s a beautiful thing.
The theme for the retreat was “Living a Life of Balance” which is something I’ve been working toward this year. The study material was very good, and I plan to go a little more in-depth with it.
My friend Alli gave a wonderful “sermonette” this morning about Martha and Mary. Up until today, any time I heard someone preach about these two women, it was to condemn Martha for doing the work instead of sitting at Jesus’ feet like Mary did. I had a little problem with that, because since I am a task-oriented person, I tend to be rather Martha-ish.
However, Alli pointed out that even in the midst of having so much to do, the top priority needs to be spending time with Jesus. We do not need to fit Jesus into our available time slots, but rather make a time slot that is His and His alone. Well, well. Call me convicted! No more prayers in the shower for me!
