Benjamin Franklin’s Epitaph
May 24, 2006The body of
B. Franklin, Printer
(Like the Cover of an Old Book
Its Contents torn Out
And Stripped of its Lettering and Gilding)
Lies Here, Food for Worms.
But the Work shall not be Lost;
For it will (as he Believ’d) Appear once More
In a New and More Elegant Edition
Revised and Corrected
By the Author.
(I wouldn’t mind having that on my own tombstone, I like it that much!)

I’ve always liked this one too!

why did he put “printer”in his grave stone??
This is an epitaph that he wrote for himself when he was only 22 , which explains why it describers him as a printer. His actual tombstone simply states his name and year of birth.
